Backcountry Policy

If you leave the ski area boundary into the backcountry or re-enter the ski area from the backcountry, YOU MUST HAVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING OR YOU WILL LOSE SKI AREA PRIVILEGES:

REQUIRED to exit or return to Ski Area boundary or you will lose your lift ticket or season pass:

1. KNOWLEDGE of terrain AND loal avalanche conditions;
• Know this winter's snowpack layers
• Know the recent snowfall and type
• Know current NWAC forecast
• Know today's forecast (snowfall, visibility, and temperature)
2. A PARTNER
3. Avalanche TRANSCEIVER and demonstrated ability to use it.
4. A SHOVEL

PROBES & CELL PHONES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

WARNING

The USFS BACKCOUNTRY WILDERNESS & NATIONAL FOREST AREAS are NOT CONTROLLED for AVALANCHES or PATROLLED and have:
• Avalanches that could occur at ANY TIME
• SNOW IMMERSION SUFFOCATION HAZARDS (SIS)
• Avalanche & snow-related hazards AT ALL TIMES
• Extreme cliff areas
• Other mountain and natural hazards
• Hazards caused by other backcountry users

If you leave Mt. Baker Ski Area boundary into the backcountry OR, re-enter the Ski Area from the backcountry,
YOU MUST HAVE ALL OF THE REQUIRED ITEMS or you will lose your Lift Ticket or Season Pass.

RESCUE MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE

You or your heirs will be charged for any rescue a minimum of $750
