The Mountain Education Center provides ongoing education for skiers and snowboarders looking to refresh or expand their skills and knowledge.

Beacon Rally
January 11th, 2025
The Beacon Rally is a jumping off point where you can be introduced to basic avalanche awareness, practice using your avalanche transceiver and hone your group rescue skills in a fun environment. Learn what it takes to use your tools to locate and uncover a buried beacon.

Intro to Backcountry Fundamentals

A first step before entering the backcountry from the Mt. Baker Ski Area, this intro course is designed for in-area skiers and snowboarders seeking foundational knowledge about avalanches, mountain weather and big mountain safety.

Avalanche Awareness & Backcountry Fundamentals
Our two-day awareness and safety course combines a Mt. Baker region-focused overview of avalanches, field observation, mountain weather and terrain selection with a companion rescue session that teaches the small group rescue skills required to respond to a burial in the backcountry.
MEC BEACON PARK
The Mt Baker Mountain Education Center will be sponsoring and maintaining a BCA beacon park this season outside the Heather Meadows Aid Room during most weekends from 10am - 3PM. Stop by to practice your beacon locating and probing skills, race your backcountry partners and track your time.
