Community Programs

We find fun, adventure, beauty, community, perhaps a little magic, and so much more here in the mountains. But we acknowledge that there are many barriers for many people in accessing and enjoying these mountains – economic, historical, racial, gender and sexual orientation discrimination, and other barriers. Mt. Baker is working with a number of organizations to help break down these barriers and provide opportunities and education to everyone. Our involvement ranges from special pricing programs to creation of education programs, donating paid crew time to work on programs and events, to straight up donations. Here are some of the programs and organizations we working with or would like to spotlight. You can find links below to learn more, donate or volunteer time and/or expertise. We are looking forward to continuing our own learning and expanding the scope of our involvement in the years to come!

Mountain Education Center

The Mountain Education Center provides ongoing education for skiers and snowboarders looking to refresh or expand their skills and knowledge.

Vamos Outdoor Project

"Vamos Outdoors Project (VOP) works to eliminate barriers to access that make it harder for Latinx and English Language Learner families to participate in outdoor, recreational, and environmental education activities. We provide supervision, transportation, food, and all necessary equipment for the activities provided by our partner organizations. All programming is free, through scholarships provided by our partner organizations or by Vamos Outdoors Project covering the fees. Our participants discover new passions, make friends, and connect with the greater Whatcom County community and environment."

Northwest Weather & Avalanche Center (NWAC)

"The Northwest Avalanche Center exists to increase avalanche awareness, reduce avalanche impacts, and equip the community with mountain weather and avalanche forecasts, education, and data.

We envision a community of backcountry users in the Pacific Northwest aware of avalanche risk, making informed decisions, and returning safely."
