OFFICIAL OPENING DAY: THURSDAY NOV. 16th!!!
CONDITIONS UPDATE: Wednesday Nov. 15
Tomorrow's the day we've all been waiting for: opening day at Mt. Baker for the 2017-18 season!! And it's starting off with a bang here at Mt. Baker, with our base at Heather Meadows already at 50 inches and 65 inches on top of Pan Dome! We are in a classic Baker storm cycle right now, with 10 inches of snow falling in the past day and lots more snow forecasted. At morning report time it's 30 degrees and temperatures are expected to drop through the day. You aren't going to want to miss the Baker opening day - with a 50-inch base already and tons of fresh snow, it should be a doozy!
We will have both base areas open on Thursday from 9:00 - 3:30 with all 3 lodges open and six chairlifts operating to start the day: chairs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7. We are hoping to open chairs 6 and/or 8 later in the day on opening day, but will have to wait to see how the snow and conditions progress.
PRE-OPERATION ADVISORY: SKI AREA CLOSED TODAY

Per Washington Law RCW 79a.45.070 Trespassers will be subject to fines.
NOAA recently updated their long-range forecast and instead of the neutral forecast called for back in late summer, they are now calling for a good chance of a medium La Niña this season. A La Niña weather pattern usually brings colder and wetter weather for us, which means more snow at colder temperatures!
Last season was a La Niña weather pattern and it brought us an amazing powder season, with 866 inches of snowfall and 68 days with more than 5 inches of fresh snow! (see the chart below for full 2016-17 powder day statistics) . Hopefully this coming season will be another La Niña powder extravaganza at Mt. Baker!
The day after closing last season our crew began construction on replacing Chair #7 from below the ground up. Thanks to the dedicated work of our crew and Skytrac (the manufacturer of the new chairlift) we just completed construction at the end of September - just in time for the snow to hit. The chairlift is now fully operational and certified, and ready to roll when the season starts. The new chair is a fixed grip quad, electrically driven, has wider, more comfortable seats and has the capability to run slightly faster than the original Chair #7 when needed. We can't wait to start it up for you all on opening day!
