Alpine Snow Safety Awareness, Transceiver & Rescue Skills A 21-hour snow safety skills course including in-depth discussions about evaluating hazards. Outdoor field time is at least 50% of total course time. A student who successfully completes this course should be able to identify basic grain types, weak and strong layers, perform field tests to determine snowpack stability, recognize weather and terrain factors contributing to instability, perform rescue through fast and efficient transceiver use, and apply safe travel techniques. | Topics Covered • Avalanche Phenoma • Terrain Analysis • Weather Observation • Snowpack Study • Field Stability Evaluations • Group Dynamics & Decision Making • Companion and Group Rescue
